Roller shutters

Available in: Sun protection

A roller shutter consists of rigidly connected slats (the shutter curtain) that run in side guide rails and can only be raised or lowered. It is mounted externally in front of the window and provides sun protection, privacy, glare protection and – depending on the type – thermal insulation.

What is a roller shutter?

A roller shutter consists of rigidly connected slats (the shutter curtain) that run in side guide rails and can only be raised or lowered. It is mounted externally in front of the window and provides sun protection, privacy, glare protection and – depending on the type – thermal insulation.

Surface-mounted or integrated roller shutter?

Roller shutters come in two main types: As a surface-mounted roller shutter, the box is attached to the wall above the window, with guide rails on the wall or in the reveal. With an integrated roller shutter, the box sits directly on the window frame – box, shutter and window form one unit. The choice depends on your project (new build, renovation) and desired properties.

Benefits of roller shutters

Roller shutters provide complete blackout when the curtain is closed – ideal for bedrooms. They create an air cushion between shutter and window, improving thermal insulation. They also dampen outside noise and can offer burglar protection with appropriate equipment. Operation is manual (strap, crank) or electric via switch, remote control or smart home.
